When life gives you lemons . . .

We're still trying to figure out a good recipe for lemonade in our household. It seems like just when we get the right amount of sugar mixed in someone comes along and squeezes in more lemon. Aaron recently lost his job and I, for certain reasons, felt compelled to quit my part time job. Timing a little off? Maybe.

We've enjoyed the last several weeks together while job hunting and we were even considering going into early retirement until we realized it doesn't pay very well at this stage in our lives. We
usually go to the gym each morning after dropping Emily off at school and we had to laugh at the following experience.

I had decided to try something new other than my normal routine and so I rushed Aaron to get to the gym on time so that I could go to a hydro aerobics class. Now for whatever reason I had no expectations in my mind of what the class would be like, but I was totally shocked when I walked out of the locker room to see 20 gray haired elderly ladies and one gentlemen facing me. By that time it was too late to turn back so I grabbed a flotation belt and joined them in the pool. I tried to glide slowly to the back without drawing more attention to myself when the instructor, who I might add was straight out of the 80's with her Hawaiian palm leaf swimsuit and brightly colored makeup, pointed me out and asked my name. I told her my name, which she repeated to the class and they all chanted in unison, "Welcome Anica!" I proceeded through the class with a big smile on my face and prayed that Aaron wouldn't come looking for me, knowing if he did I would burst out laughing. I laughed inside as ladies broke off into small relief society groups throughout the class to chat, and before long I found myself in one of these little groups. I reunited with a former piano teacher and heard testimonials as to how "hydro aerobics" helped with aching hips, knees, and backs. . . . . . I might just be sold :)
Apparently Emily thinks we're on the same path as Job from the Bible and wants to speed up the process because she brought this book home from the school library for us to read to her:
HOW TO LOSE ALL YOUR FRIENDS

We take comfort in knowing that we're not the only ones in this position and that we all are given different trials throughout life. We're just trying to keep the faith that something better will come along.

Anica, We don't have jobs either! Hooray for no income! We should all just move to a retirement community in Florida. I wonder if they have good elementary schools for our kids in a reitement community. I'll look into it. In the meantime, something I like to remember is that President Monson said "The future is as bright as our faith" so I guess we just have to have a lot of faith.

Christmas in Germany

Christmas 2016 Bernkastel-Kues Christmas morning Our Christmas was a little different this year, or I guess a lot different because of being in a different country and far away from the family and friends we love. We celebrated about a week and a half early because Emily went to spend Christmas with her other family and Aaron had to work on Christmas. Emily left the day after the girls' last day of school, so when they came home from school we opened presents from each other and then by popular vote spent the rest of the night eating pizza and bowling at the bowling alley on base. The next day we woke up early to deliver Em to the airport. We were able to hit a couple of Christmas Markets in the beginning weeks of December with her and then we did a couple after she left. We thought it was kind of fun how each Christmas Market has their own mug that you can collect, so the collecting motivated Aaron a little more to hit multiple markets rather than to just stay ho...

6 Week Flu

SYMPTONS: FREQUENT VOMITING, EXCESSIVE FATIGUE, NAUSEA, LACK OF MOTIVATION SIDE EFFECTS: HOUSE TURNS INTO A PIG PEN, FAMILY MEMBERS WEAR DIRTY UNDERWEAR FOR SEVERAL DAYS, MEMBERS OF YOUR FAMILY ARE ACCUSED OF HAVING EATING DISORDERS FROM MALNUTRITION, YOUR BED & COUCH HAVE A PERMANENT INDENT, AND THE CARPET FROM HERE TO THE BATHROOM HAVE A WELL WORN PATH, PEOPLE THINK YOU HAVE FALLEN OFF THE FACE OF THE EARTH My friend recently told me there's a chance she "might" be pregnant. When I asked what might meant, she told me it could just be the flu. I laughed at her until I started experiencing the same symptoms. Even after a positive pregnancy test I worried that it might be all in my head. Thank heavens for a trip to the doctor, he confirmed that: WE ARE HAVING BABY NUMBER 2 !!!!!! I apologize to any of you who have asked recently when we are having more kids or why I am sick, and I didn't give you a straight answer . . . well now you know!
