Emily and I had our birthdays over the weekend. She had her 6th and I, my 29th. I'm sure this will be the first of many 29th's. :) I'm a little apprehensive about 30, which is weird because I always thought people were dumb for not wanting to get older, but it might just be the fact that my younger fabulous husband likes to rub in how old I am.
When I look back over the last decade these are some of the major events and accomplishments I met in my 20's and I share them not to brag, but solely to have a more positive outlook and convince myself of the potential and goals I have for my 30's.
I traveled to 4 countries and 15 states
I attended 4 schools
Lost 2 permanent teeth
I graduated with my Associate's degree
I graduated with my Bachelor's degree
I obtained my Cosmetology license
I married twice
Divorced once
Became the mother to 2 beautiful girls
Had 2 dogs
Lived in 6 different houses/apartments
Lived in 2 states and 1 foreign country
Bought my first house
Owned 4 different cars
Held 10+ different jobs
(the favorite being a mom)
I have to say I'm glad for the opportunities and challenges I've been given the past decade that have allowed me to learn and grow. I'm so grateful to have met my best friend and married him. He is my balance in life. My favorite thing is how he'll stay up all hours of the night talking and listening to me (and if I'm lucky I can usually get a foot rub out of him too;). I love his perspectives on things and his positive approach to life.
And now to a completely unrelated topic:

This is one of our new favorite foods. Sweet Potatoes are a hit with old (Anica) and young (Izzy) alike at the DeHart household. I like to steam them and usually I just add a little salt or if I'm feeling like dessert maybe some butter and brown sugar. They have healthier carbs than a regular potato and are less starchy.
I recently took a class at the gym and worked with a trainer to incorporate healthier eating and exercise habits. I wouldn't say I was a terrible eater, but I felt like I was working out and not getting the results I wanted. From what I learned, I would consider what I eat to be more important than my exercise routine. I didn't want to just do a diet which I would eventually fall away from, but more of a lifestyle change. I was able to lower my body fat and add more muscle and I've succeeded in helping my family to eat healthier as well.
I didn't realize how much it's affected them until Emily picked up a drink at the grocery store and said, "Mom, how much sugars does this have? Is it healthy?"
