Meet Izzy

Isabel Marie DeHart made her debut into the world on Saturday April 18, 2009 at 6:08 pm She weighed 7 lbs. 14 oz. and was 20 in. long We are in love with her curly blond hair Aaron is in love with his new little girl. I hardly changed any diapers in the hospital and unless I was feeding her I had to fight him to hold her. He claims I got to hold her for the last 9 months, it's hardly the sa me. Our family of four I DID IT! I had set a goal for myself to deliver naturally with this baby (I had an epidural with em and don't get me wrong I loved it.) Aaron and I took classes to learn relaxation techniques and how the body works through the delivery process. We learned a lot. I had been having some serious labor pains for the past several weeks and thought because of this I probably wouldn't realize when it was time for the real thing. I had hair appointments scheduled all day Saturday and was doing my last one (thank heavens it was my mom) when my water broke. She stil...

Peace

This is an ultrasound picture from our baby and if you can't tell it is her hand doing the "peace" sign. I'm sure hoping this child brings peace. Today was School Picture Day at preschool. That title alone makes any mom want to take a couple of sleeping pills, crawl under her bed, and not surface until the morning is over. I woke up early to prepare for the event. I laid Emily's clothes out for her - clothes I picked that were a compromise because I knew we would both be okay with the outfit. So I avoided any drama there. The trouble came when it was time to do her hair. I sat her down on the toilet and proceeded to curl her hair. She put no small amount of effort into making it a difficult task for me. I accomplished it in a short amount of time considering the situation. She then looked in the mirror and that's when all hell broke loose. The neighbors probably thought the beginning of World War III was happening at our house as she began yelling a...

Nesting

Aaron would probably agree that my nesting mode has been in line with this guy - a little to the extreme . I've been unexpectedly out of work for a month due to my department being remodeled which has only exacerbated my nesting. (Too bad they couldn't have coordinated with my maternity leave.) Not only do I know where everything in our house is and have it labeled, but the decorations change daily. Em and I have kept ourselves busy and find new projects to do on a regular basis. Here are some of the things we've been up to. We created some wall art for our living room. We redecorated the fireplace mantel. We got the baby's bed set up and ready. We made curtains for the girls' room. We made wall hangings for the girls' room. I go back to work tomorrow and I feel like they're infringing upon my time. How dare they . . . :) My creative juices have just started flowing and in a month and half any energy I have will be completely exhausted by our new little...

Self-esteem

Send me 5 please Aaron was recently trying to persuade me to let him take a picture of me in the "penguin pants" and I refused. Emily stood up in my defense by saying, "Mommy is NOT a penguin, she's just a fat, old lady!" One morning putting on my makeup, Emily was being oh-so helpful and I mentioned how I wish I was as beautiful as her. She looked me right in the eye and said, "Oh Mom, you are beautiful - you have makeup!" Aaron had tired of throwing Emily up in the air when she asked me to do it. I told her I didn't have muscles like Aaron and with a disappointed look on her face she said, "Oh I forgot, you're fat." Unfortunately I have to laugh at her because I'm afraid she gets her lack of tact from me, not to mention kids this age are pretty honest.

Tired of watering your plants?

I can remember the day the Aquaglobe first entered Emily's life. She spent the day with her Grandma and came home to tell me about this "cool thing" she'd seen on TV. She told me all about it and how I needed one and I listened and didn't really think twice, just nodding my head as she went through the whole infomericial. Well this was nine months ago and she hasn't been the same since. A few months ago she went to Walgreen's with her dad and discovered that they carry the Aquaglobe, I think this was the greatest day of her life. Now I cannot drive by Walgreen's without coming up with an excuse to not buy the Aquaglobe. Without thinking, Aaron and I stopped there last night and had planned for him to run in and grab what we needed when Emily barrelled out of her carseat and said, "I've got to show you the Aquaglobes!" We just looked at each other and realized we couldn't say no to this, nor could we laugh because she is dead ser...

Wasatch Woman Awards

I had the privilege of being a presenter at the Wasatch Woman Awards last Friday. I have done some freelance writing and photography for Wasatch Woman magazine and most recently submitted a story I had written about Jestina (click for her story) . The editor liked it and told me they were trying to find a spot for it in the upcoming year when she mentioned the annual Wasatch Woman Awards were coming up and suggested nominating Jestina for these awards. I thought about it and was nervous to contact Jestina and seek her approval as she is very humble about recognition. She told me to go ahead as she thought she had no chance of winning. Ha ha! But win she did, along with 5 other women. Jestina received the award for perseverance. The awards ceremony was held at the Little America hotel during a banquet and I had the honor of presenting Jestina with her award. In talking with her after, I mentioned how amazing she is and she said, "I'm just a normal person." ...

Penguin Pants

So the other day I'm getting ready for work and I can't find anything to fit around my distorted body so I decide to break into the maternity clothes. Unfortunately at work we have a dress code, so I picked out a pair of pants I thought had a professional appearance. As I pulled them on I reflected back five years ago and remembered that I had a problem with the length of these pants and most all maternity pants. I was totally elated when the pants were on and they hit an appropriate length with my shoes on. I figured I looked fine and was pleased to find something else I could wear in my diminishing wardrobe. Now for some reason we don't have a full length mirror in our house (weird, I know) so after a quick look in the bathroom mirror I headed off to work. At work I went about my normal routine and even had an evaluation with my boss before I took a break to the ladies room. Upon leaving the restroom I took a quick glance in the full length mirror and sto...
